‘Not as seedy as it sounds’: Victoria Beckham reveals truth behind the early days of her romance with David

In the trailer for the upcoming docu-series Beckham, Victoria Beckham reveals she kept the early days of her romance with now husband David Beckham a secret.

“My manager kept saying, ‘try and keep it under wraps’,” reveals the former Spice Girl. “So we would meet in car parks and that’s not as seedy as it sounds.”

Victoria and David first met in 1997 in the Manchester United players lounge following a charity football match.

“Love at first sight does exist,” she wrote in a letter to her younger, self published in British Vogue. “It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge – although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy.”

Although the trailer doesn’t give much away, it seems that the two main points of conversation will be David Beckham’s illustrious career, and his tumultuous relationship with Victoria.

“I don’t think I’ve ever talked about it, just because I can’t,” reveals David while images of tabloid headlines such as ‘Disgraced Star’ and ‘One Stupid Boy’ flash across the screen.

“I wasn’t eating, I wasn’t sleeping, it took a toll on me that I never even knew myself.”

It’s unclear exactly what David is referring to, but the trailer seems to be alluding to David’s slew of alleged affairs beginning in the early 2000s.

The pair have always denied any accusations of infidelity, releasing a statement at the time saying, “we are sick and tired of people trying to make money at the expense of our family. It’s even more distressing when we are expecting our third son.

“These allegations are completely untrue and it is in the hands of our lawyers.”

Allegations of David’s infidelity have continued over the years, with the most recent being an alleged affair with his daughter’s teacher in 2018.

“It’s really entertaining when the circus comes to town, right? Unless you’re in it,” explained Victoria in a sit down interview for the documentary.

The trailer continues to flash images of the early days of Beckham’s career while former teammates and other football figures talk about a young Beckham’s skill and determination.

The documentary is set to be released on Netflix on October 4, and promises viewers that they will get to ‘witness the story like never before’.
