A photo of Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon at a local sporting event in the US on Saturday night has caused controversy, with fans wondering why the pair wasn’t watching women’s sport instead.
This comes after the Matildas took out fourth place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, igniting the women’s sporting movement like never before.
However upon further inspection, the reason for the pair’s attendance at this men’s event in Nashville is owing to their friendships with David and Victoria Beckham, and their support of Nashville, where they both reside with their families.

David Beckham is co-owner of Inter Miami who were taking on Nashville SC in the men’s Leagues Cup in the US. He recently signed soccer great Lionel Messi to the team, with Messi playing an important role in the team’s triumph.
Both Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are Nashville residents, with Witherspoon making her feelings about the game clear.
“Let’s go Nashville SC!” she shared on Instagram.
A win for Nashville, however, wasn’t to be, with Inter Milan willing the game on penalties.

Still, the celebrity group shared a series of photos together from behind the scenes at the match.
Kidman posted a video showing Witherspoon placing the match ball ahead of the game. She and Witherspoon posed for photos together and alongside David and Victoria Beckham.
Following Inter Milan’s triumph, Victoria shared: “”Wow! What a night in Nashville!!!! We couldn’t be prouder @davidbeckham we love you so much xxxx CHAMPIONS @intermiamicf.”
Victoria tagged in her children Cruz and Harper who both joined their parents at the match.
Matildas’ and women’s sports fans will be happy to know Kidman also shared a series on Instagram posts praising the Matildas for their efforts in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Following Matildas loss to Sweden, leaving them in fourth place, Kidman wrote: “Matildas what an incredible World Cup.

Following Spain’s win against England, Kidman posted: ”Congratulations to Spain & England, you played with heart, incredible match! Thank you to @FIFAWomensWorldCup for an inspiring & exciting month of women’s soccer!! Loved it.”
David Beckham also praised the Lioness’ ahead of their grand final loss against Spain, sharing a video showing the girls as children before they became world famous players.
