Nicky Henderson welcomes horses from TEN rival trainers and says JP McManus’ new buy is ‘something you dream about’

TOP trainer Nicky Henderson has received a major boost ahead of the new jumps season.

He recently welcomed a host of new arrivals at Seven Barrows from a number of rival yards – some of whom have superstar potential.

Among the established horses to have joined Lambourn-based Hendo is Grade 2 winner Adrimel, who has been switched from the Tom Lacey stable.

The six-time champion trainer was also the beneficiary of Michael Scudamore’s move up to Scotland, with owner Olly Harris wanting to keep his horses in the South.

So Hendo will now train Peaky Boy and Kingston Pride – who are exciting prospects for novice hurdles this season having won a bumper and point-to-point respectively last term.

Harris has also transferred the unbeaten Willmount – who is 2-2 under Rules – and £290,000 purchase Break My Soul from the Wiltshire stable of Neil Mulholland.

He revealed at his owners’ open day on Sunday that he has also stocked up on new blood from across the English Channel, including unbeaten French youngsters Donwave and River Gold.

A few other runners from rivals trainers, including Milton Harris’ Gentle Slopes and Bhaloo from Fergal O’Brien, have also made the switch to Seven Barrows.

But perhaps the recruit that has got Hendo most excited is Jeriko Du Reponet, a point-to-point winner in Ireland who was recently scooped up by leading owner JP McManus.

Henderson has been purring over the four-year-old gelding, who won by 11 lengths on his sole start between the flags at Kirkistown.

He said: “This looks something rather special and is a really stunning individual by a French sire that looks like he is going places.

“He had one run in a point-to-point with Wilson Dennison in the north of Ireland and was, by all accounts, extremely impressive showing a very good turn of foot and winning extremely easily.

“He has only just arrived, looks absolutely fabulous and I can only say that this does look like something you dream about and I only hope we can do him justice and that he is as good as he looks.

“I would imagine he would start straight over hurdles. He is only a four-year-old but he is a really fine, strong horse that looks pretty mature and I think he might be ready to go to war later in the autumn which is very exciting.”

Henderson already has a top-class team of horses heading into the 2023/24 jumps season.

They are, of course, headed by Constitution Hill who will remain over hurdles this season in a bid to retain his Champion Hurdle crown.

But he also has several other older stars including Shishkin, who will be aimed at the King George, and Champion Chase-bound Jonbon who should give him a good shot at a seventh trainers’ title this winter.
