Neymar says he and Lionel Messi ‘lived through hell’ at PSG and reveals major regret from time in France

NEYMAR has claimed he and Lionel Messi experienced “hell” at Paris Saint-Germain as they failed to “make history” in France.

The duo, who previously fired Barcelona to Champions League success, were reunited at the Ligue 1 giants in 2021.

However, despite enjoying domestic title success, the star pairing were unable to deliver the long-craved European glory for PSG.

Argentina legend Messi, 36, left Parc des Princes this summer for MLS club Inter Miami and is now proving to be a phenomenon in the States after Hollywood’s A-listers watched his latest stunning display last night against LAFC.

Meanwhile, Brazilian Neymar also departed in blockbuster fashion after he penned a mega £2.5m-a-week deal with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

Now the 31-year-old, who became the planet’s most-expensive footballer when he joined PSG for £198m from Barca in 2017, has opened up on his time in the French capital.

And he admitted his huge regret at not being able to help the team to Champions League joy as he discussed why the dream reunion with Messi turned into a nightmare.

Neymar told Globo: “I was very happy for the year he had, but at the same time very sad, because he lived both sides of the coin, he went to heaven with the Argentina team, won everything in recent years, and with Paris he lived hell.

“We lived through hell, both he and I. We get upset, because we’re not there for nothing, we’re there to do our best, be champions, try to make history, that’s why we started playing together again, we came together there so we could make history.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t make it.”

And on Messi’s decision to leave for America, Neymar says he is happy for his close friend to end his career with a smile on his face following on from his World Cup triumph in December.

He added: “Messi left in a way that, for football, he didn’t deserve.

“For everything he is, everything he does, anyone who knows him knows, he is a guy who trains, who fights, if he loses he gets angry, and he was unfairly treated in my opinion.

“But at the same time I was very happy that he won the World Cup.

“As you said, football was fair this time, since the Brazilian team lost, Messi deserved to end his career like this.”
