MANCHESTER UNITED’S FA Cup clash with Newport was suspended due to a medical emergency in the crowd.
The game was halted for several minutes as a fan received medical attention.
Newport vs Manchester United was temporarily suspended due to a medical emergency
The match was restarted after a few minutes
Emergency services were seen in the stands as they dealt with the problem swiftly.
The matter appeared to be resolved and the referee resumed play minutes later.
Newport tweeted: “There is a suspected medical emergency in the stand, play is paused temporarily.”
The incident occurred shortly before full-time, though nine minutes were added on in stoppage time.
That was enough time for the Red Devils to add a fourth goal as Ramus Hojlund fired into an empty net.
United were made to work hard for their victory despite racing into a 2-0 lead inside 13 minutes.
Goals from captain Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo put them in the driving seat before League Two Newport pegged them back.
Bryn Morris’ long-range rocket was deflected in by Lisandro Martinez’s head before Will Evans poked in an unlikely equaliser.
But United responded well and when Antony fired home a rebound after Luke Shaw hit the post it appeared to be their day.
They threatened a fourth before the stoppage in play and Hojlund pounced after Mainoo almost added his second.
