Newcastle ‘planning swoop for Brazilian Serie A star’ as Bruno Guimaraes linked with shock transfer exit

NEWCASTLE are reportedly planning a swoop for Atalanta star Ederson.

Eddie Howe is keen to strengthen his squad this month but could be hindered by Financial Fair Play regulations.

Ederson has been a target for several weeks and Newcastle could try to sign the midfielder before the transfer window closes, report Sky Sports News.

The Brazilian could cost around £35million, with Atalanta keen to make a profit after splashing out £18m on the 24-year-old in 2022.

The Italians will listen to “monstrous offers” that are “impossible to refuse”, but will not be entertained by any proposal less than £35m.

Newcastle announced losses of £73.4m in 2022-23 despite revenues up £70m to a record £250m – after spending £153m on new players.

But Toon chiefs are confident they are not at risk of breaching Prem FFP rules.

Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is one star who could be sold to comply with FFP regulations and the Brazilian could fetch a considerable fee.

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made Bruno their No1 transfer target, with Barcelona and Liverpool also admirers.

He signed a five-year deal in October which reportedly includes a £100m release clause, so Toon are unlikely to sell for much less.

Eddie Howe is determined to hang on to the former Lyon star and issued a hands off warning when asked about his future.

He said: “When you are talking about your best players you want to keep them at the football club as long as possible so that is certainly our aim.”
