It means users use less electricity when browsing online as Chrome dials back some of its usual activity.

The new feature “conserves battery power by limiting background activity and visual effects”, according to Google.

This includes animations and smooth scrolling.

It is also only available on Chrome 110.

Users might have to update their version of Chrome to access the new feature.

Google added that users might notice “changing in gaming and video performance”, when the feature is turned on.

Energy saver mode is enabled by default, but can be turned off in Chrome Settings under the Performance option.

If users don’t want to turn the feature off completely, they have the option to make sure energy saving mode turns on when the device’s battery is at 20% or lower.

This will help conserve power for device, and ultimately use less electricity.

Alternatively, Chrome users have the option to make the feature switch on automatically when their computer is unplugged.
