Nearly 100 new postcodes getting £25 cold weather payments direct to bank accounts – are you eligible?

The money can give households a helping hand in tackling rising energy costs as we head deeper into winter.

The payment is made automatically, including to those on Universal Credit.

Cold weather payments are made in locations where residents experience continuous below-zero weather.

It comes as Brits are set to be hit with a -2C bone chiller on Christmas Day, according to the Met Office.

Rain is expected to batter parts of the UK on Christmas Day with the mercury expected to dip in northern parts.

Forecasters say a white Christmas looks unlikely in the south but remains a chance up north.

Households can get £25 during each seven-day period of low temperatures between November 1 and March 31.

The DWP confirmed that cold weather payments had been triggered in 85 postcodes since December 16.
