Nadia Bartel hits back after being questioned over keeping her ex-husband’s surname: ‘Sick of the question’

Nadia Bartel, 38, has made it clear that while her marriage is over, her last name is here to stay.

The Australian model and designer has taken to TikTok to hit back at a comment questioning why she has kept her ex-husband’s surname.

Nadia was married to former AFL star Jimmy Bartel, 39, for five years.

The pair wed in 2014 before finally divorcing in 2021 after being separated for two years since 2019.

Nadia, who is the owner of clothing brand HENNE, did not change back to her maiden name Coppolino after the divorce.

Now, it seems the designer is finally sick of being asked why.

“Kept the surname I see,” one person commented on Nadia’s TikTok.

The model proceeded to strike back at the troll, replying with a separate TikTok video on Sunday.

“I cannot tell you how many times I get asked this question, trolled about this,” Nadia began the TikTok clip which now has over 127,300 views.

She explained that she had been asked the same question “every day pretty much since my marriage ended” and was finally setting the record straight.

“And i don’t have to answer this question, obviously. But I’m just so sick of the question being thrown at me,” Nadia said.

The mother-of-two went on to state the simple reason why she has kept her last name, which has nothing to do with her ex-husband.

It turns out she just wants to keep the same surname as her sons.

“The fact of the matter is, I want the same surname as my two small boys,” the model explained to her over 23,200 TikTok followers.

Nadia and her ex-husband Jimmy share two sons, Aston and Henley, from their marriage.

“I don’t see why I personally have to have a different name to my small children, because my marriage ended,” Nadia said, stating that she is “traditional” in that sense.

”I guess it’s just the way I’ve been brought up culturally, it’s just the way I am. And I really want the same surname as my boys,” she added.

While the Henne founder is happy keeping the surname for the time being, she acknowledged that her sons may want her to change it later down the line.

“This might change in the future. Obviously, when they get older and might feel differently about it,” she said.

“But then, obviously, I’ve have had Bartel for such a period of time now, I just look at it as the last name of my two boys,” Nadia continued in the video.

“And I really don’t know why all of you care so much about it and why you still need to be trolled about it today, and it was four years ago when my marriage ended.”

Nadia first defended her decision to keep Bartel in her name two years ago when her marriage had just ended.

Replying to a comment on her Instagram post in 2021, the mother of two stated “I want the same last name as my children.”

“Each to their own, and who knows what will happen for me in the future, but right now when they are so young it’s hard to have a different surname to them,” Nadia replied to another comment.

Earlier this year, Nadia responded to a fan Q&A on her social media, opening up about co-parenting with her ex-husband.

The mother of two said that co-parenting her sons is the ‘hardest thing’.

“I don’t ever want a break from being a mum,” she told her followers, explaining that she struggles being away from her children.
