MOTORS fans have been left baffled by a sports car spotted in an old photo… from 1962.
Car fanatics on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were handed the challenge of trying to identify a mysterious blue motor that can be seen in a photo of London’s Oxford Street.

The old picture, which was posted by user bo66ie29, shows a busy Oxford Street with classic red buses typical of the 1960s on the road.
There’s also men wearing suits walking along a busy pavement and old ladies walking out of shot in the foreground.
But it’s the unusual-looking blue sports car pulling out of a turning onto the main road that really catches the eye.
The original poster wrote: “Apparently, for years, the blue car has remained unidentified.
“It’s been published in magazines and on many car forums yet remains a mystery.”
The photo has racked up over 200 comments from car enthusiasts across the social media platform with their suggestions on the make and model of the mystery motor.
One thought the car might be a Ferrari 250 GTO, while another reasoned it could be a Deep Sanderson – a range of sports coupes that were built and raced in the 1960s.
Another claimed it might be an ‘Aston’ and added: “It’s very strange this photo, as that car doesn’t fit at all with the dreary 60s traffic present.”
While another said: “If it’s a mystery with all the car buffs around then perhaps it was a home built special.”
However, a number of car fans seemed able to narrow down what the previously unidentifiable machine might be.
One said: “Although the front end styling is different, this looks to me like a Sunbeam Alpine Harrington.”
And another agreed: “I thought from the fins it was related to a Sunbeam Alpine as well.”
But a handful of experts seemingly ‘nailed’ the mystery by identifying it as a rare Sunbeam Tiger Project TS4 concept car, which seems to only exist as a 3D image.
Little is known about this concept, although the original Sunbeam Tiger is a popular classic V8 sports car that was designed by racing driver Carroll Shelby.
The Tiger itself was originally a development of the Sunbeam Alpine – one of the most iconic Roadsters of the 1960s.
Although it seems no one will ever know for sure what the definitive answer is to this 60-year riddle.
Meanwhile, there’s been another motors mystery on a lake near Chicago as an abandoned Volvo appeared on tiny remote island… and it can even be seen on Google Maps.
