Mystery as new pics of £100m plans that will make Premier League stadium look unrecognisable ‘removed’ from public view

NEW pictures of Crystal Palace’s stunning proposed Main Stand surfaced yesterday as the Eagles prepare to modernise Selhurst Park.

The proposed new stand, which received planning permission in principal from Croydon Council last year, will see Selhurst’s capacity rise from 26,000 to 34,000.

It is set to house 13,500 fans, up from a current 5,200, while providing modern corporate facilities and greater disabled access.

The huge stand is set to modernise Palace’s historic home, with its predecessor having been built in 1924.

Fans will also be able to visit an improved retail store as part of the new build, as well as a club museum.

It will also enable Palace to bring their pitch up to Uefa standard.

Palace have partnered with KSS Group in designing the ambitious new Main Stand.

KSS Group have worked on a number of high-profile projects – including Tottenham and Liverpool’s state of the art training grounds, as well as the redevelopment of the Reds’ Main Stand and No.1 Court at Wimbledon.

This week, new images emerged on KSS’ website of the proposed new Selhurst Park Main Stand.

Fans marvelled at its exterior, which takes inspiration from the historic 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition Hall.

Another image depicts how it will look from inside the stadium – with the three-tier stand featuring a corporate layer between the upper and lower decks.

Latest images of the spectacular new design were posted to social media by Palace fan HLTCO.

Within hours, however, the page on KSS’ site featuring information on the Selhurst Park Main Stand redevelopment mysteriously vanished.

Crystal Palace and KSS Group have been contacted for comment.

Following HLTCO’s post, Palace fans gushed at the exciting design.

One wrote: “That must be a nod to the old Crystal Palace building. Really like it.”

While a second tweeted: “Looks bloody lovely. I can’t wait to see it completed…”

A third tweeted: “That looks really impressive. Hope it happens.”

Palace first released plans for a new £100million Main Stand in 2018.

Council red tape and discussions with local residents have delayed the project, with Covid-19 also playing a factor.

In October 2022, Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “I would like to thank Croydon Council for their continued support for the stadium redevelopment, which will bring substantial investment into the borough, as well as breathing new life into Selhurst Park.

“We would have liked to have started the project sooner, but our plans were delayed by financial constraints caused by the Covid pandemic. In the last couple of years our focus has been on bringing our exciting Academy development to fruition, but our attention will now turn to the stadium project.

“It has long been our ambition to extend and modernise Selhurst Park, making it a home fit for the 21st century.

“We are looking forward to getting started on the project. There is a lot of preparatory work to be done in the coming months and we will update on a likely timetable in due course.”
