ALLY McCOIST is revelling in his media role at the World Cup in Qatar.
But the tournament also gave him his WORST moment in the game.
McCoist made the admission on talkSPORT breakfast with Laura Woods.
He’s one of the viewers’ favourites whether it’s on the co-commentary gantry at live games with ITV or mulling over the day’s events on talkSPORT breakfast show with Laura Woods.
The ex-Rangers legend’s enthusiasm shines through at every game he has covered and he hails it as the BEST job in the world.
But from the highs of Qatar McCoist has also revealed the World Cup moment that CRUSHED him.
He branded it the “worst feeling in football by a mile”.
Almost a quarter of a decade ago – when Scotland last qualified for the tournament – McCoist had banged in 16 goals for Rangers but was overlooked for Craig Brown’s squad at France 98.
He still attended – taking on TV work instead – but admitted on talkSPORT breakfast it was his worst moment in the game.
He said: “It was the worst I’ve ever felt in football, by a mile – I was in tears to tell you the truth.
“You know there are much more important things – and there are.
“But at that time that was the most important thing and it’s the worst I’ve ever felt in football by some considerable distance because I know I should have gone. 100 per cent I should have.
“We’re having a discussion about Harry Kane thinking about his penalty for the next five years.
“I think about not going to the World Cup in France every day, just about. Honestly.”
McCoist has bounced back from the blow though and is now one of the most popular TV pundits covering the games.
He added: “It is the best position and best job on the planet. Every game I’ve looked to my left just before kick-off and the commentator and I just shrug our shoulders and laugh ‘Is this not just fantastic’ and it is – it’s amazing.
“Great seats, a great view to watch the game and a chance to give the listeners and vierwers an insight into what’s going on.
“The cameras can only show you so much so I try to give an insight. You learn to try and keep an eye on everything.
“It’s just behind coaching and managing. Playing is the best by the proverbial mile – nothing comes close.
“Next best is coaching and managing and just behind that is sitting on the halfway line talking about it.”
