The 14-year-old from Oldham, Greater Manchester, was described as having ‘bags of energy’ by his uncle Umar Jawaid, 39.
Now, the optometrist has said his family is ‘living through a nightmare’, adding that the teen had been a youngster who was able to bring everyone together.
“He was very active. He was a keen footballer. He loved his football. I spoke to one of his teachers who said he didn’t want to pick him for the school team but he was one of those characters who just pestered him and pestered him. Eventually he could not say no to the kid!
“He used to run around and had bags of energy. On the street he was always having a kick-about. No-one went until Ibrahim was tired, which to be honest didn’t happen very often,” he told the Manchester Evening News.
Umar added that his nephew had friends of all ages and said that hundreds of people attended prayers for the youngster at his local mosque on Friday afternoon.
The 14-year-old leaves behind his parents Shahid Ilyas, 48, mum Saima Jawaid, 44, and three siblings Ismael, 25, Saher, 24 and Elizah, 18.
Uncle Umar added that Ibrahim was a ‘care-free’ soul who was always punctual at school and had wanted his life to be as stress-free as possible.
Ibrahim was a ‘fit’ youngster but Umar added that the initial indication was that he had suffered from an undiagnosed heart condition.
Umar added that his nephew had suffered from no prior health issues.
The youngster had also played for Chadderton FC Juniors, and in a statement the team said nothing had fazed the teenager.
The post read: “It is with deep sadness that the club were informed of the unexpected and tragic passing of Ibrahim Shahid on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.
“Ibrahim, who was a member of the U14 Stripes, had been with the club since he was 6 years old.
“In fact he was our first ever man of the match and the first ever winner of the annual manager’s player of the year trophy.
“Nothing fazed Ibrahim, he was a popular member of the squad and always brought a smile to the faces of his coaches with his constant questions, be it football related or life in general.
“You will be badly missed young man and everyone at the club, both juniors and seniors, players, coaches and families send their heartfelt condolences to his family.”
The NHS states that there are many different types of heart conditions, this includes congenital heart conditions, inherited conditions and valve disease, amongst a few.
It’s not clear which heart condition the teenager had, as it was undiagnosed.
But if you are worried about your, or your child’s symptoms you should see a GP.
There is also a charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) that offers free screening to young people between the ages of 14 and 35.
These tests feature a ECG (electrocardiogram) test, with results being read by a cardiologist.
You can get more information on the screenings on their website.
