Mum left £1,000 out of pocket after easyJet said her flight was cancelled – only for it to take off

A MUM has been left £1,000 out of pocket after she was told her flight was cancelled – only for it to go ahead.

Natasha Williams was on holiday with her three kids in Berlin before Christmas when they were told their flight home to Bristol was cancelled.

Mum Natasha Williams has been left £1,000 after easyJet cancelled her flight – only for it to go aheadBPM

She said she only realised what happened when they arrived at the airport to check in their luggage before their flight.

She told Devon Live: “I went to the easyJet desk to be told that our flight was cancelled. It didn’t show up on the screen or anything.

“I said ‘well what do I do?’ and easyJet said ‘just rebook a flight and we’ll reimburse you’.”

The next direct flight home wasn’t for another four days, so rather than fly from Berlin to Bristol, she had to book flights from Berlin to Birmingham via Paris.

Not only did she have to pay for the new AirFrance flights, but she also had to book another night in Berlin, paying more than £1,000 in total.

Natasha, from Exeter, said her kids were “left crying” when the flights were cancelled, as they didn’t want to stay an extra four days.

However, after paying for the new flights and hotel, she said she was then told by someone at the airport that their flight was going ahead after all.

Natasha explained: “This guy came over and said ‘you were on our flight, weren’t you? I’ve been on the phone to easyJet in Bristol, the flight isn’t cancelled, apparently it’s on the way.’”

The family were then rushed through the airport and made it onto their original easyJet flight home – only to run into more problems when back in the UK.

Natasha said the airline refused to reimburse her for the new flights and hotel, as they said she still made it onto her booked flight.

She said the airline refused to take responsibility, and neither her insurance nor credit card were willing to refund her either.

She added: “It’s £1,000, I’m a single parent. If it were £100 or something, maybe I could just take it on the chin but £1,000 is a lot of money.”

EasyJet told DevonLive they were investigating the incident.

It’s not the first time this has happened to holidaymakers.

One woman said she was left £1,000 out of pocket after Ryanair cancelled her flights – only to say they would go ahead, and then cancelled them again.

Here are the five things you should do if your flight is cancelled, as well as how much compensation you can get depending on why it was cancelled.
