Vertu BMW in Malton, Yorkshire, folded in April after years of trading.

The Vertu Motors group said it had not taken the decision lightly and all options had been considered.

Staff were informed of the decision at the beginning of March.

The group promised laid off workers every possible support, including helping them find new internal or external roles in the wake of the closure.

The site specalised in BMW and Mini cars and was popular in the local area.

A spokesperson for Vertu said: “We are sorry to inform our customers that BMW Malton has now been closed.

“The decision to close our Vertu BMW & Mini centre in Malton has not been taken lightly and not before all alternative options have been considered.

“We understand that this will be difficult for colleagues and everything possible will be undertaken to support them, including finding alternative employment within the Group, which will be the case for a number of the Malton team, or externally where we cannot find a workable alternative role.

“Our nearby York BMW & Mini centre will provide continuity of service to our existing and new customers.”

Vertu is also known as Bristol Street Motors and Macklin Motors.

It comes after a major car brand effectively discontinued one of its most popular models by transforming the engine.

Meanwhile, a driver hit back at a £200 fine which he claimed makes no sense as the evidence his alleged offence was “ridiculous”.
