And the No8 seed dispatched Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4 6-2 4-6 7-5 in Melbourne to break the ‘Netflix curse’ that had struck Nick Kyrgios, Paula Badosa and others.
But he risked the wrath of his glamorous partner Riddle during his on-court interview.
Asked how he planned to spend the evening following his first-round victory, a smiling Fritz said: “Get some dinner, maybe some video games if my girlfriend lets me.”
But the TV footage cut to Riddle, who appeared slightly unimpressed by the suggestion as she stood in the stands.
Fritz, 25, then caused yet another stir before leaving the John Cain Arena court.
The big-serving American – who hit four straight aces to win one game in 42 seconds in the fourth set – signed the camera lens.
But fans were left in shock when they thought he had inked a penis.
And Fritz had to take to Twitter to clarify it was meant to be a padlock.
The Californian wrote: “For ur information I was trying to draw a (lock) emoji…. I just forgot the very important fact that I suck at drawing.”
Riddle stars in the new Netflix docu-series Break Point, following the tennis circuit throughout the 2022 season.
The Minnesota model blonde, 25, now lives in Los Angeles – but keeps her 115,000 Instagram followers updated with vlogs of her travels with Fritz.
The loved-up couple have been dating for two years, with Fritz having a son with ex-wife Raquel Pedraza.
