Meta warns some users their account faces being deleted at the end of the month unless they switch now

META has started warning users they will need to switch their accounts very soon or risk it being permanently deleted.

The social networking giant has issued notices to Quest VR headset owners who are still using an old Oculus account.

Those still with an Oculus account must migrate to the Meta account system otherwise all games, purchases, and store credits will be lost.

Meta has been phasing out Oculus accounts for a while now as the Mark Zuckerberg-owned firm shifts the brand towards Meta.

Today the Oculus name has all but disappeared with devices coming under the “Meta Quest” umbrella.

Initial, the company wanted users to create a Facebook account.

However, that didn’t go down well with people who didn’t want their Facebook profile associated with their Quest headset.

So in 2022 Meta accounts were introduced.

By January 2023, the social network stopped allowing to users log in to their Oculus accounts.

Active users of Quest headsets will have already migrated to continue accessing the service.

But those who haven’t used theirs for a while are being warned of their last chance to switch across or lose their account and everything associated with it, The Verge reports.

“If your Oculus account is deleted you will no longer be able to use Meta Quest with your Oculus account and you won’t be able to reactivate or retrive anything from your account,” an email notice reads.

The deletion is due to take place in a matter of weeks, on March 29.
