Mechanic reveals the ‘single most important item’ you must keep in your car when visiting a garage – & it’s not fuel

A MECHANIC has revealed the “single most important item” you must keep in your car when visiting a garage – and it’s not fuel.

The content creator from Walsall Wood Tyre & Service is warning motorists to always keep this tiny device in their cars.

The expert mechanic took to TikTok to share his top advise

He told drivers to always know where to find the locking wheel nut

He took to TikTok to urge drivers the piece they need to carry before they set out to minimise breakdowns and disruption to journeys.

The motors whizz said: “[This is] the single most important thing you need to make sure is in your car before you go to your garage and it’s not fuel.”

The thing many drivers may overlook is the locking wheel nut key.

Locking wheel nuts – also known as lug nuts or alloy wheel nuts – are used to keep wheels secure on a car.

But if you need to change a tyre, it has to come off – and you’ll need your locking wheel nut key to do so.

Locking wheel nuts can also keep your wheels and rims safe from thieves.

All you need to do is swap one regular lug nut on each wheel which makes it much harder to remove.

The expert mechanic added: “Without this no technician is going to be able to remove your wheels without risking damage.

“So it’s always a good idea to pop out to your vehicle and make sure that this key is in the car and intact as well.”

However, if the pips in the corner are broken away it has more chances of damaging your wheel car.

He added: “Make sure it’s there and make sure it’s good.”

The video has already amassed hundreds of views with more than 800 likes from fellow drivers.

Dozens of users flocked to the comment section to share their thoughts and experiences.

One user said: “Car manufacturers only give one wheel key when they should give two. If you keep it in car and someone steals it you’re in trouble. There should be a spare.”

Another added: “I always put mine on the passenger seat if getting any work done involving wheel removal.”

It comes as another car mechanic revealed his useful trick that can save drivers big money on repairs.

TikToker Checkenginechuckllc warned motorists that shouldn’t allow leaves to gather under their car bonnets during the next few months as it can affect the running of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a car expert shared little-known trick he uses to defog his windscreen – despite people thinking he’s lost his mind.

Scotty Kilmer, who has been in the motors game for more than five decades, says the item works a treat to stop condensation, too.
