Mauricio Pochettino set to axe up to five Chelsea stars in January transfer window with captain Conor Gallagher at risk

CONOR GALLAGHER could be one of five players who are shown the exit door at Stamford Bridge in January.

Chelsea’s bloated squad could be trimmed in the coming weeks with Mauricio Pochettino willing to let a number of players leave.

The Blues are struggling for form and currently sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

There’s an argument that it could be something to do with a lack of harmony around the squad as a result of the 30 players Todd Boehly has spent over £1BILLION bringing in to the club.

And the casualties of the heavy spending have been revealed with the winter window now just a matter of days away.

According to The Athletic Conor Gallagher, who has captained the side 11 times this season, is one of those who is up for grabs.

The England International has played in every league game he’s been available for this season, but could still see his time in west London come to an end.

He is said to be attracting interest from a number of teams with Everton, West Ham and Tottenham all interested in the past.

But it could be hard to shift him on with teams unlikely to meet Chelsea‘s £40m valuation of the 23-year-old.

Joining Gallagher on he transfer list for January is fellow academy graduates Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja.

Chalobah is yet to play under Pochettino due to injury and with the wealth of defensive options at the club is reportedly up for sale.

Broja is understood to be likely to leave the club should Chelsea bring in another centre-forward in the January window.

The London outfit are reportedly prioritising a move for a top striker for their incomings this winter.

Former youth defender Ian Maatsen is another who is able to leave Stamford Bridge next month after he turned down a move to Burnley in the summer.

The Athletic has claimed that Manchester City are interested in the 21-year-old who made his first league start of the season on Wednesday against Crystal Palace.

All four ex-academy stars would represent “pure profit” in terms of incoming funds for Chelsea with no big outlays invested in bringing them to the club.

While the fifth player up for sale, Malang Sarr, is also an option who can help rebalance the books for a profit with his move from Nice in 2020 coming as a free transfer.

The huge number of players at Chelsea means that Sarr isn’t even currently registered as a Premier League player this season despite his mega £100,000 per week wages.

Sarr hasn’t featured in a competitive fixture for the club since 2022 and joins Gallagher, Broja, Chalobah and Maatsen on the list of players facing the axe.
