GOLFER Matt Fitzpatrick labelled transfer expert Fabrizio Romano a “numpty” after he referred to Sheffield United as simply “Sheffield”.
World No10 Fitzpatrick, 28, was born in the South Yorkshire city and is a huge Blades fan.

And he was in no mood for Romano‘s reference to his club as the journalist simply labelled them “Sheffield”.
Back on July 11, Romano tweeted: “Olympique Marseille are in advanced negotiations over personal terms with Iliman Ndiaye.
“Agreement expected soon as five year deal is being discussed, Ndiaye wants the move.
“OM will negotiate with Sheffield about transfer fee. Step by step.
“Deal on as revealed last week.”
Iliman Nidiaye has since signed for Sheffield United.
And Fitzpatrick, who won the US Open in 2022, replied to Romano’s post nearly three weeks later with a blunt response.
He said: “It’s Sheffield United numpty, not Sheffield.”

And Sheffield United fans were quick to back up the golf star.
One said: “Well said. I thought this guy knew something about football?!”
Another added: “Spot on mate, shocking.”
A third replied: “Well said Matt .”
And a fourth responded: “Winds me up. Total disrespect for our teams. They wouldn’t just say Manchester if they were talking about City or Utd.”
Sheffield United are preparing for life back in the Premier League after securing promotion from the Championship last season.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side kick off their campaign at home to Crystal Palace on August 12.
