Match of the Day latest — Gary Lineker pulled off show by BBC as Alan Shearer and Ian Wright stand down in solidarity

GARY Lineker has been pulled by BBC from Match of the Day after his controversial statements about new immigration legislation.

In a statement, the BBC said it has “decided that he will step back from presenting Match of the Day until we’ve got an agreed and clear position on his use of social media.”

Since Lineker was pulled, fellow presenter and former Arsenal star Ian Wright announced that he would refuse to be on the show tomorrow. Alan Shearer quickly followed suit.

It comes after Mr Lineker sparked a major backlash this week when he took to Twitter to hit out at the Illegal Migration Bill, which bans migrants who arrive on small boats from ever settling in Britain.

“This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the ’30s, and I’m out of order?,” the former Leicester player wrote.
