‘Massacre’ at Southwell races as horse embarrasses rivals on outrageous debut

A ‘MASSACRE’ at Southwell races left punters in total awe of a two-year-old colt who looks destined for the very top.

Karl Burke’s Night Raider embarrassed all his rivals when cruising to a simply devastating nine-length victory.

Sent off the 15-8 fav, there’s a fair chance Burke could have paid for his Christmas with a hefty wager on what, from an early stage, looked an absolute good thing.

Owned by the famous Clipper Logistics, this colt by Dark Angel cost around £150,000 and looked like he was worth every single penny in the Class 5 7f race.

As he barely got out of a canter crossing the line, one punter said the race resembled a ‘massacre’.

Another said: “Jesus, that thing could be a monster. Wow.”

One comment read: “Wtf was that? Unbelievable performance.”

The praise kept rolling in.

He was branded a ‘machine’ and a ‘proper horse’ that put in an ‘unreal, effortless performance’.

While one punter said: “Erm, what the hell is this? Visually, the best Flat performance I’ve seen in 2023.”

The comments were similar to that of Aidan O’Brien’s City Of Troy, who gave viewers ‘shivers’ with his Newmarket run last July.

For context, that horse is now favourite to win the Triple Crown of the 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby and St Leger next year.

Some urged caution however, questioning the calibre of horses Night Raider beat on debut.

Winning jockey Danny Tudhope said: “He’s a nice horse going forward – I’m not sure what he’s beat there though.”

Smiling, he added: “But when I asked him to pick up he took off. He’s a nice horse.”
