Greenwood had not kicked a ball since January 22 2022 in a game that saw Manchester United take on West Ham before returning this season for Getafe.
He was suspended by Manchester United after being charged by the Crown Prosecution Service in October 2022 for attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The case was withdrawn on February 2 2023 after key witnesses withdrew their statements and refused to cooperate.
That left United in a situation which at times looked as though they might bring Greenwood back into their squad.
However after massive fan backlash and criticism from leading charities, United opted to loan the winger.
The club said in a statement: âBased on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged
âThat said, as Mason publicly acknowledges today, he has made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for.
âAll those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.
âIt has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.â
The winger was then able to ârebuildâ his career when he sealed a controversial loan move to LaLiga outfit Getafe, who are based in Madrid.
The winger has slowly been integrated into the Getafe first team since joining the club on September 1.
His first appearance for the club, saw him met with chants of âGreenwood dieâ by Osasunaâs travelling support in a LaLiga game.
The winger has also had to make himself accustomed to his fair share of agricultural challenges with many opposition players upset by his presence in Spainâs top flight.
In his fifth league appearance for Getafe today, he scored his first goal against Celta Vigo after 33 minutes.
The game has shaped up to be an exciting one so far, with the two sides going in drawing 2-2 at the break.
