Spotify says it needs to up prices so it can “continue to invest in and innovate our product offerings and features”.
Among those investments in recent years is the introduction of audiobooks.
The firm has also been spending a lot on expensive podcasts deals.
Spotify reportedly paid an estimated £18million on for a doomed podcast by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that only yielded 12 episodes and a “holiday special” in the space of 31 months.

Instantly save money on Spotify
Music fans may be unaware that they can buy Spotify gift cards that cost £99 for a year’s access to Premium.
You can buy one online from Currys and receive it instantly.
Of course, you should always be careful when buying gift cards.
They can expire and if the issuer goes bust they may no longer be redeemable with no way of getting your money back – something Martin Lewis, 51, has previously warned about.
If you do decide to opt for a gift card like this, the best way to avoid losing money is by redeeming it immediately.
Once purchased, redeem the gift on your Spotify account.
It should kick in on your next billing date.
People having problems redeeming can try cancelling their plan first then adding the code – contact Spotify if you continue to experience problems.
