Mark Zuckerberg launches fresh attack against Apple’s latest gadget saying it’s ‘worse in most ways’ than Meta rival

MARK Zuckerberg has chimed into the Apple Vision Pro vs Meta Quest debate yet again with one message: Apple’s headset is ‘worse in most ways.’

Last month, the Meta founder further fuelled his company’s rivalry with Apple after slating his competitors’ mixed reality headset.

At the time, Zuckerberg had few positives to say about the flashy Apple Vision Pro, only managing to describe some features as “nice”.

The Apple Vision Pro headset was released in the US on February 2, marking a whole new product category for the iPhone maker in the realms of virtual reality (VR).

The Vision Pro entered a market that had largely been dominated by Meta’s VR headset, the Quest.

I think the narrative that these headsets are only for games is out of date.

He later slammed so-called “Apple fanboys” who flocked in outrage following his critique of the Vision Pro goggles.

While he certainly riled up hardcore Apple fans, Zuckerberg didn’t believe he said anything out of line.

Once again, Zuckerberg has stepped into the limelight to defend his VR headset against rumours saying his Quest and the Vision Pro are “the same”.

In a post on his Threads app, the Meta boss wrote: “I don’t think we’re saying the devices are the same. We’re saying Quest is better.

“If our devices weigh as much as theirs in 3-5 years, or have the motion blur theirs has, or the lack of precision inputs, etc, then that means we’ll have regressed significantly.

“Yes, their resolution is higher, but they paid for that with many other product tradeoffs that make their device worse in most ways. That’s not what we aspire to.”

Apple’s picture resolution trumps Meta’s, which tech fans reckon is an attempt at getting the device on par with iPhones and computers.

Customers are more likely to find the value in these gadgets than, say, a VR headset – which is typically associated with gaming.

But that leaves onlookers pigeon-holing the Quest as a gaming-focused product, a label Zuckerberg is actively fighting against.

“Three of the top seven Quest apps are already social apps — Horizon, VR Chat, and Rec Room,” Zuckerberg added.

“Browser and video player are top apps too. Fitness isn’t as high up there, but has a passionate community as well.

“So I think the narrative that these headsets are only for games is out of date.

“And yes, more resolution is better — but trading off ergonomics and motion blur isn’t a clear win when Quest’s resolution is also quite good.”
