Man Utd’s bid for Bayern Munich star is ‘rejected’ but talks continue as Ten Hag targets World Cup-winning hero

MANCHESTER UNITED have had a bid for Benjamin Pavard rejected by Bayern Munich, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag is exploring ways to improve his defence with Eric Bailly and Harry Maguire up for sale.

United have tracked Pavard for several months and could finally sign the centre-back this month.

That’s because his contract expires next year, though manager Thomas Tuchel says he is under no pressure to leave.

And according to Bild Bayern have now knocked back an offer from the Red Devils for the Frenchman.

The report also claims Liverpool are interested in signing Pavard, who is said to be keen on moving to the Premier League.

And it is understood a fee of around £26million could be enough to persuade Bayern to let him go.

Pavard can also operate as a right-back and his versatility means United might make him a priority if Maguire leaves.

The former captain is expected to complete his £30m move to West Ham soon having already agreed personal terms with the Hammers.

Maguire will need to iron out financial issues with United relating to bonuses before completing his move.

Tuchel played down rumours Pavard could leave when asked about his future.

He said: “We have made it clear that we will treat him like a player who has a ten-year contract. There’s no reason to pressure him.”
