Man Utd set to activate FIVE first-team stars’ contract extensions to stop losing them all on free transfer exits

Old Trafford chiefs are working hard to convince David de Gea, Luke Shaw, Fred, Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot to stay, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It is a high-calibre quintet and four of them have just returned from national team duty at the World Cup.

Keeper De Gea has 45 caps but is currently out of favour with Spain.

All five will be out of contract with the Red Devils on June 30 but the club has an option to add on a year for each of them.

And that looks likely to happen after still relatively new United boss Erik ten Hag made it clear they are all part of his plans.

Defenders Dalot, 23, and Shaw, 27, and forward Rashford, 25, have all been regular starters under the Dutchman.

The trio all enhanced the reputations with positive displays at Qatar 2022.

Ten Hag underlined his faith in Rashford by saying last week he has the potential to be as good as France superstar Kylian Mbappe.

It appears United will have to move quickly to protect their assets with a number of suitors ready to move in next summer.

The MEN report reveals that Barcelona are interested in Dalot and Paris Saint-Germain met Rashford’s agent in August.

De Gea has been at United for 11 years and has impressed under Ten Hag but he has just turned 32 and his future in Manchester appears less certain.

And it is a similar story for Brazil star Fred, who has grown into a key member of United’s midfield since his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk four years ago, but turns 30 in March.
