Man Utd fans spot Harry Maguire WASN’T captain after Bruno Fernandes was subbed off as private chat is revealed

MANCHESTER UNITED fans noticed Harry Maguire did not even get the captain’s armband even after Bruno Fernandes left the pitch last night.

United beat Premier League rivals Arsenal 2-0 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Goals from Fernandes and Jadon Sancho secured the win for the Red Devils.

POrtuguese star Fernandes, 28, was confirmed as United’s new captain  just days after Maguire was stripped of the armband.

But he is just one of SIX players in Erik ten Hag’s leadership group for the upcoming season.

However, despite Fernandes going off at half time and Maguire coming yesterday, it was Brazilian midfielder Casemiro that wore the armband for the second period.

One eagle-eyed viewer was quick to notice and said: “Even though Maguire is on the pitch, Casemiro is captain.”

“It’s a totally new era,” read one response, with another saying: “Clear signs he’s not in the boss plans.”

“Maguire is not ranked top 3 for captaincy,” commented another Red Devil, while a fellow fan wrote: “Ruthless by ETH that’s what we like to see.”

Another fan said “that is damning” while another tweeted: “Vice captain Casemiro love it.”

And another even went as far to say: “If no one is on the pitch except Maguire they should give the armband to a fan.”

Meanwhile, Fernandes has said that Maguire is “happy” for him after he took over the leadership.

Following the win over the Gunners, he revealed all about a private chat between the pair in the build-up to the match.

Fernandes said: “He gave me congratulations and he said he is really happy for me.

“I understand his position is not the best at the moment. It has to be difficult for him but he came and said congratulations to me and I am happy about that because we have always had a good relationship.

“Everyone already knew about the situation with H [Maguire] but no one knew who would be the next captain.

“So [Ten Hag broke the news] in a team meeting with everyone together because it’s something we have to do more often, to keep the things inside and give the compliments inside to ourselves.”
