Man Utd fans say ‘this would be a dream come true’ as No1 summer transfer target is revealed

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are in dreamland after their No1 summer transfer target was revealed.

United are in the market for a centre-back as the futures of Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire remain in doubt.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Benfica‘s Antonio Silva is top of their summer wishlist.

It is claimed United are keen to come up with contract terms for when Silva’s £85million release clause comes into play.

His current deal is due to expire in 2027 and Benfica are resigned to losing the talented centre-half.

The 20-year-old has made 60 first-team appearances for the Portuguese giants since making his debut in 2022.

Silva has played 17 times this term and has one goal to his name – leaving United fans in awe of the potential signing.

One said: “Would be a dream come true. Top tier talent.”

Another added: “Excellent choice.”

His links to Old Trafford comes after SunSport revealed Varane is set to leave next summer.

Despite being linked with a January exit, Erik ten Hag will not let the Frenchman, 30, leave until the end of the season.

A return to Real Madrid has been touted but Italy or Saudi Arabia could prove more appealing to the World Cup winner.

Varane is one of United’s highest earners on wages of around £340,000-per-week, behind Marcus Rashford and Casemiro.

Earlier this month, Ten Hag denied that he and Varane had fallen out after selecting him from the start in just one of United’s last eight games.

The Dutchman claimed: “It is about tactical reasons why I chose these partnerships. I think Harry and Jonny did well.

“What I said last year, Harry didn’t play a lot, so I was very happy with Rapha’s performances. I have always been happy with his performance.”
