United agreed a deal to land Hojlund with £64m to be paid upfront and a further £8m coming in add-ons on Saturday.
Ten Hag, 53, has been desperate to sign a new striker this summer following the exits of Cristiano Ronaldo and loanee Wout Weghorst last season.
However, he is not yet willing to comment on Hojlund until the deal is officially announced.
When asked about the player during an interview with Sky Sports, he said: “I can’t talk about those who are not on the contract at Manchester United.
“So if you want to make the question, first we have to finish something, and then after we can talk and you can set the question.
“I can’t talk about this player at the moment because I have been in football for a long time and I know first we need signings, and so far we have to keep calm and let the professionals do their work.”
But while he refused to give anything way, fans noticed his expression during the interview.
One Tweeted: “He can’t stop smiling .”

A fourth said: “Loooool he can’t hide his smile, he’s a happy man for sure.”
While a fifth added: “This brother is grinning like I’ve never seen. He better be cooking with this signing.”

The Denmark international will pen a bumper five-year contract with the Red Devils after bidding farewell to team-mates after Atalanta’s pre-season friendly against Bournemouth.
Paperwork is set to be exchanged between all parties in the coming hours, with Hojlund due to undergo a medical at Carrington.
Hojlund would become United’s third arrival this summer with the club already completing deals for Mason Mount and Andre Onana, taking their spending to £179m.
The 20-year-old only joined Atalanta in a £14.5m move from Austrian outfit Sturm Graz last summer.
Hojlund scored nine goals in 32 Serie A appearances after breaking into the starting XI.
In total, he has 27 career goals – meaning United will be paying out £2.6m per strike.
