Man Utd fans beg ‘don’t give me hope’ as footage resurfaces of Frenkie de Jong at Old Trafford after transfer saga

MANCHESTER UNITED fans were left with mixed emotions after a video of Frenkie de Jong at Old Trafford emerged on social media.

De Jong, 26, was heavily linked with a move to Manchester last summer.

The Red Devils attempted to sign him in a £70million transfer, but Barcelona refused to let him go.

Instead, the midfielder stayed at the Nou Camp, where he won the La Liga title in May.

However, some United fans have started to get excited by the prospect of a transfer once again after a video of De Jong at Old Trafford emerged.

The Dutchman travelled to the iconic stadium in February when Barcelona faced United in the Europa League.

But fans were quick to notice his reaction to the atmosphere while he walked on to the pitch.

The clip began circulating on social media again earlier this week, with some supporters urging the club to submit another offer for De Jong.

One person tweeted: “We need him.”

And other added: “Frenkie got lost in Old Trafford. We are getting him this time.”

However, some fans were far from impressed, with one writing: “Don’t give me hope.”

Another added: “I thought he was coming. I can’t do this again.”

A third wrote: “Not this again.”

While a fourth person commented: “Yeah let’s not have a repeat of another transfer saga again.”

Despite receiving interest from Man Utd, De Jong has revealed that he will stay at Barcelona next season.

He told Voetbal International: “That has been clear to me, also last summer when things were restless for a while.

“I always knew that I wanted to stay at Barcelona.

“That’s why it wasn’t so stressful for me last summer.

“Also, I had just signed a contract extension [in 2020] so I always felt that I was in control and able to decide for myself.

“That’s why I didn’t bother [worrying about it]. I feel good at Barcelona and assume that I will still be playing here next season.”
