Man City ‘make move to sign £44m-rated centre-back’ despite Pep Guardiola spending £200m on the position in three years

MANCHESTER CITY are interested in signing Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, according to reports.

The 19-year-old has impressed for the Serie A side.

Scalvini, 19, was identified as an alternative to Josko Gvardiol in the summer.

And according to Calciomercato, City remain interested in his services.

They add that he would be expected to cost around £44million to prise away from Atalanta.

Scalvini has started nine of his side’s ten games in all competitions so far this term.

He has also become an Italy regular, already earning seven caps for the Azzurri.

City could add him to an impressive pool of centre-backs, having spent over £200m on the position in the last three years.

Ruben Dias cost £64.5m and Nathan Ake £41m in the summer of 2020.

While £15m was splashed out on Manuel Akanji last year, and £77m on Gvardiol in August.

Should City push to sign Scalvini, they will have to fend off interest from elsewhere.

Bayern Munich are reportedly eager to bring Scalvini to Germany.

While Juventus would love to sign Atalanta’s star prospect.

Scalvini played with Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund last season.

The Danish forward subsequently moved to Old Trafford for £72m.
