OVO Energy has issued an update for SSE customers whose accounts are due to switch in the coming months.
The energy supplier which is part of the “Big Six” has revealed when hundreds of thousands of SSE customers will have their accounts moved over.
All customers at SSE Energy Services will move over to Ovo Energy by January 2024
A spokesperson to Ovo told The Sun that all remaining SSE customers will be moved over to the parent brand by the end of January 2024.
Up until now, Ovo hadn’t given a timescale for when it expects all SSE domestic customers to switch over.
Millions of customers have already moved over to Ovo from SSE but hundreds of thousands are still yet to do so.
Once this process is complete the SSE Energy Services brand will cease to exist and all customers will have their gas and electricity managed directly by the Ovo Energy brand instead.
The transfers won’t interrupt a customer’s supply, bills or meters.
Ovo originally acquired 3.5million of SSE’s domestic users in January 2020 in a move which catapulted the brand to become part of the “Big Six”.
But it intends to close off a number of its subsidiary brands to ensure that it can provide all domestic energy customers with a similar offering.
The Sun revealed last month that it plans to shut down Boost, its prepayment meter brand, later this year.
Remaining SSE customers will be told that their account is being moved over via letter, email or on one of their upcoming bills.
The update will include all the important details about what to expect from the move.
You might’ve received this already. But if you haven’t, you don’t need to do anything and Ovo Energy will be in touch.
You’ll know when your transfer has begun because you’ll see a message confirming this when you log in to your SSE account.
Once your account has been moved to Ovo, you should receive a final SSE bill.
This will contain all the key information you’ll need to keep a note of including your new Ovo Energy account number and a link to get started with your new online account.
Ovo Energy was founded by Stephen Fitzpatrick in September 2009 and by 2017 provided energy tariffs to over 700,000 households.
The company now supplies 4.5million households with gas and electricity across the UK.
Since SSE plc disbanded its domestic energy arm its sole focus has been on power generation through the operation of several UK power stations.
Its SSE renewables arm also builds and operates onshore and offshore wind farms across the UK and Ireland as well as running hydroelectric operations in Scotland.
