Hay fever wipes start for as little as 99p and the company’s tablets will be fixed at £3.69.

Caris Newson, Superdrug’s healthcare director, said: “Due to the current economic climate, we know our customers want effective healthcare products that provide real value for money.

“Our own brand allergy products include the same active ingredients as branded alternatives and with prices starting as little as 99p, our range offers real value for money.

“Our commitment to price freezing this important range for the remainder of 2023 will hopefully support the nation in managing and dealing with their allergies, in a cost effective and efficient way.”

Around half of Brits suffer with hay fever symptoms, according to Allergy UK.

The condition is caused by the body having an allergic reaction to pollen, which normally comes in contact with your mouth, nose, eyes and throat.

Symptoms include sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, itchy, red or watery eyes and an itchy throat, mouth, nose or ears.

Sufferers can be allergic to either tree pollen, with symptoms beginning in late March and lasting till mid-May, or grass, which peaks from mid-May till September, or both.

They are usually treated with antihistamine drops, tablets or nasal sprays, which can be bought at pharmacists.

You can also help ease symptoms by putting vaseline around your nostrils to trap pollen and showing and changing your clothes regularly to wash pollen off.

In more serious cases, a GP may prescribe a steroid treatment, like a steroid nasal spray.

Superdrug’s range of own-brand drugs include eye drops, tablets, wipes, eye mists and a nose spray, which is the most expensive at £6.79.
