The new plugin hybrid, named the GT 63 S E Performance, will be based on the prototype that Mercedes presented at the Munich Motor Show last year.

Sharing its powertrain with the newly launched Mercedes-AMG SL 63 E Performance roadster – the branch new motor will have a monstrous twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine under its hood.

Paired with an electric motor mounted at the rear, the beast machine will be able to produce a whopping 804bhp while generating an insane 1074lb-ft of peak torque output.

From a standstill, the coupe is expected to sprint to 62mph in just 2.9 seconds.

And it will be able to hit the top speed of 196mph – making it one of the fastest production PHEVs in Mercedes’ lineup.

The 400V battery mounted under the boot will pump out extra power when the car accelerates – and will hold enough charge for the vehicle to go as far as eight miles with the engine shut off.

The car will also get the carbon-ceramic brakes from the convertible model too, along with a standard-fit rear-axle steering, according to Autocar.

The GT 63 S E Performance will join the company’s latest fleet of electrified cars after the S63, SL 63, C63, GT 63 4-Door Coupé and One hypercar.

Meanwhile, Mercedes is set to reveal a new electric version of the G-Class at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show after several years in development.

The iconic SUV is gaming the favourite motors that celebs like to own.

The G-Class, often dubbed the G-Wagon, was originally conceived as a military vehicle in the 1970s but has since found a cult following among the super-rich.

The range retails from £133,500 and has become a symbol of wealth and status on social media.

Famous faces spotted behind the wheel of G models include Megan FoxBritney Spears and Kendall Jenner.

Now, though, the German brand is set to release an all-electric version, according to Autocar.

The new motor is expected to be sold as the G580, having been revealed under the EQG name as a concept in 2021.

It will feature a four-motor powertrain to maintain the off-road, all-terrain capability of its internal combustion equivalent.

Based on technical specifications released back in 2022, it is also expected to have a range of between 200 and 220 mules to a single charge.

Elsewhere, it is set to feature a mixture of on-road (Eco, Comfort and Sport) and off-road (Trail, Rock and Sand) driving modes, while each wheel will be regulated by its own two-speed gearbox to aid performance on any surface.

Emmerich Schiller, who heads up Merc’s G-Class sub-brand, claimed the new car will offer “an unparalleled combination of luxury and off-road ability for electric vehicles”.

He added: “From the start, it was decided the electric G-Class should be at least as good as the internal-combustion-engine model both on-road and off-road.

“We didn’t want to compromise on capabilities.

“It is incredibly precise.

“The individual control of drive to each wheel provides a whole new level of ability.

“I think we have the best electric off-roader.”

The Mercedes G580 will be unveiled on April 24.
