Major car brand launching petrol version of flagship EV that will be in UK showrooms by Christmas

A MAJOR car brand is set to launch a petrol version of one of its flagship EVs.

Jeep have announced that petrol-powered versions of the new Avenger are heading to the UK – with a limited number arriving by December.

Named European Car of the Year for 2023 at the Brussels Motor Show, Jeep’s baby SUV was the brand’s first fully-electric model.

With its low price and compact size, the Avenger has proven popular across Europe – with over 40,000 units sold.

Now, presumably in a bid to appeal to a wider audience, Jeep will expand the Avenger’s line-up to include new hybrid and petrol powertrain options.

As reported by Auto Express, the pure-petrol Avenger will be limited edition and will come in a special trim called Altitude Plus.

It will include an array of luxuries including heated seats, sat-nav, a JBL sound system, velour carpet mats, blind spot monitoring and automatic high beams.

Above that, the petrol Avenger should be a cheaper alternative to the pure-electric and hybrid options.

UK pricing for the pure-petrol Avenger will be announced soon – but it’s expected to start from around £27,500, which is roughly £8,000 less than the cheapest Avenger EV.

The Sun Motors’ main man Rob Gill test drove the Avenger last year, describing the EV as engineered to give owners an intro to off-road freedom and back-woods adventure – but also giving them a brilliant city car.

Jeep recently revealed a whole host of EVs that are coming to its line-up – including two iconic models which are switching to all electric.

Meanwhile, 4×4 fans will also be amazed by this extra special Range Rover once owned by Queen Elizabeth II – that sold for an eye-watering new price at an auction after jumping in value within four months.

The 19-year-old motor, the third generation of its kind built by Land Rover, was spotted at the Iconic Auctioneers NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham and went for a winning bid of £132,750.

Days later, a classic Ferrari that has had just one cautious owner in the last 38 years sold for a record fee at an auction in New York.

The 1962 330 LM 250 GTO was one of just 34 ever made and has been dubbed the “holy grail” of collector cars.
