Major brand discontinues car after five years… the replacement is sold out already

A MAJOR brand has discontinued one of their cars after five years – with the replacement selling out already.

World-famous McLaren announced they have stopped making the 720S Coupe after only introducing it in 2017.

McLaren is replacing the 720S with a newer version

Production on the sports car was quietly stopped at the end of last year with the British luxury automotive brand already having a successor in their plans.

The 720S, which had a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, went from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds.

At the time, it replaced the 765S and had doors that opened upwards – like something out of a James Bond film.

But McLaren is now replacing it with the 750S which has already sold out until 2024.

Expecting to be even more “aggressive”, the motor will debut any day.

The 750S will reportedly have up to 740 horsepower and a price tag upwards of £300,000.

It will also be able to hit 62mph from 0 in 2.8 seconds – one millisecond quicker than the 720S.

An insider said: “It’s not as extreme as 765, but it is a little more aggressive than 720.”

And President of McLaren in America, Nicolas Brown, said it would be a “refinement” of the 720.

He added: “It’s not a next-generation, all-new, ground-up vehicle.”

It comes after a high-speed motor used in the 007 films sold in no time.

The Lotus Emira, heir to the iconic Esprit driven by James Bond, has been selling at record pace.

The spiritual descendant of the generational Lotus Esprit driven by Bond in 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me and 1981’s For Your Eyes Only, the Emira has already sold by the thousands.

Sales are on course to hit a brand record of 5,000 by the end of the year.
