Madonna celebrates album’s 40th birthday while sharing health update with fans

Madonna has shared an update with her fans, after being hospitalised with a serious bacterial infection.

The pop star, 64, shared a video to Instagram of her dancing along to her classic hit Lucky Star, which was released in 1983.

“To be able to move my body and dance just a little bit makes me feel like the Luckiest Star in the world!” Madonna wrote.

“Thank you to all of my fans and friends!” she continued, referencing the support she’s received amid the health scare. “You must be my lucky stars too!”

“And Happy 40th Birthday to my very first album,” she added. Madonna’s self-titled debut album was released on July 27, 1983.

Last month, Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, announced she was in the ICU after developing a “serious bacterial infection”.

The star first updated her fans three weeks ago, reassuring them that her health was on the mend. “Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love,” the Like a Prayer singer wrote on Instagram.

She went on to write: “My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.”

The singer was forced to reschedule dates of her world tour, which was set to kick off in July.

In a statement following Madonna’s post, Live Nation confirmed all the North American dates of our tour have been postponed.
