Little-known Costco trick gives shopper a £350 discount on a TV – here’s how you can too

A little-known Costco trick has given a shopper a £350 discount on a TV.

The discount retailer sells items in bulk and customers have to have a membership.

There’s a trick to get money back on your Costco purchase

One clever shopper managed to knock off £350 on a purchase he made.

Posting in a Costco Facebook group, he said he’d purchased a Hisense TV last Tuesday (August 22) for £850.

However, when he went back onto the Costco website on Friday (August 25) morning, he said that it had been reduced to £500.

He then logged a price adjustment request and a few days later Costco confirmed it will refund him the £350 difference.

In an email to the happy shopper, the retailer said: “Thank you for your price adjustment request.

“This has been approved and the refund process will begin today, if your item has been shipped.

“If your item has not been shipped your refund will be processed once shipped.”

Costco shoppers took to the comments to share their excitement.

One said: “They are very fare, just be patient and wait for email. I’ve never had an issue with price adjustments.”

Another commented: “Excellent.”

Shoppers who have noticed a product has dropped in price after they purchased it can make a price adjustment request in store or online.

It must be submitted within the promotion period – when the item is still on sale – and while it is still in stock.

Bear in mind that Costco does not price match with other retailers or within its own items that are in store and online.

So if you purchased something online but its cheaper in a Costco warehouse, you won’t be able to get the refund.

Earlier this month, The Sun exclusively revealed that Costco planning to open 14 new warehouses across the UK in the next two years

The Sun understands this could feasibly be completed within the next two years, although some stores could be delayed if the acquisitions take longer than planned.

Costco is currently looking to snap up warehouses to convert in the following locations:

It is working with property development company Chase Commercial to find and convert the new sites, but all the purchases will be self-funded.

The bargain retailer is also set to open a new site in Gloucester after it acquired a major site in Eastern Avenue, just off the M5 motorway last month.

How do I become a Costco member?

Costco is a chain retail store that sells items in bulk. It also sells items under its own brand, Kirkland.

Not just anyone can shop at Costco – you need to be a member.

To be eligible for membership, you need to have – or be retired from – a certain type of job.

This includes public sector workers such as NHS staff, police officers, teachers and local government workers.

Costco membership starts from £15 a year for online shopping only, rising to £33.60 a year for individual members who want access to the warehouses.

There are also trade memberships for businesses starting at £26.40 a year.

The retailer offers a range of other services for members, from discounted fuel and tyre installation to mortgage services and pet insurance.

Earlier this year, Costco launched its first digital membership card, meaning shoppers can now scan their phones in stores rather than having to carry a physical card.

What other similar schemes are out there?

Many retailers offer price match guarantees which means that if you’ve purchased an item, but it’s cheaper somewhere else, they’ll match it or refund you the difference.

Currys, Tesco, Boots and Wickes all offer price match guarantees.

For example, Tesco matches its products with discount supermarket Aldi.

While, Boots offers price match promises on its kitchen and homeware appliances.

In terms of a price adjustment request, not many UK retailers offer it.

John Lewis used to but got rid of the scheme in August last year.
