Legendary football manager Ferario Spasov killed in ‘high-speed’ car crash with two others injured

LEGENDARY football manager Ferario Spasov has been tragically killed in a high-speed crash.

Spasov was the manager of Bulgarian side Dunav Lom.

Reports in Bulgaria said the incident occurred at 17:00 near Veliko Tarnovo on the road between Sofia and Varna.

Spasov, who was 61, was returning home to Lovech from a match between Dunav and Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa.

The traffic collision occurred when the car driven by Spasov was hit from behind by a Mercedes sports car.

Spasov died at the scene.

Meanwhile, two people who were in the Mercedes were also injured.

Bulgarian giants CSKA Sofia paid tribute to their former manager.

A statement on their website said: “It is with great pain and sorrow that we inform you that yesterday the former coach of CSKA Ferario Spasov died in a car accident near Veliko Tarnovo.

“The management, the players, the coaching staff and all CSKA employees express their sincere condolences to the family, relatives and relatives of Ferario Spasov!”

Ex-club Botev Plovdiv also paid tribute to their former boss.

Spasov enjoyed a widespread career in management from 1996.

He managed 18 different teams and went on to lift the Bulgarian League title in 1998/99 and the Bulgarian Cup in 2000/01.

Spasov also had a stint as Bulgaria’s Under 17 boss.

Prior to going into management, he had been a midfielder in a career spanning between 1979 and 1993.
