Kylie Minogue’s dating history: Everything we know about the singer’s past and present relationships

Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue’s love life has dominated headlines over the last few years, with her stories of love and heartbreak.

Though the 55-year old is currently single, she is a testament to the idea that love can be found anywhere and at any time.

After years of high-profile romances splashed across newspapers, here we take a look at the Spinning Around singer’s biggest loves.

Kylie and Jason Donovan: 1984 – 1989

Minogue and Jason Donovan played on screen-lovers in Neighbours, and as teenagers the co-stars relationship quickly blossomed off screen.

The adorable couple would go on to date for five years before Minogue ended it over the phone in 1989. Donovan admitted to the Sydney Morning Herald that this was his first real relationship, adding, “that was full-on, for obvious reasons.”

“It was great and we created magic together on screen – we were boyfriend and girlfriend on Neighbours – and off screen. We’re still good friends” Donovan said.

He and Kylie would go on to reprise their roles as Scott and Charlene Robinson in the soap’s finale.

Kylie and Michael Hutchence: 1989 – 1991

Australia witnessed one of the most iconic relationships in the early noughties between two wildly successful musicians, Minogue and INXS frontman, Michael Hutchence.

At just 20, Minogue was nine years his junior, impacting her innocent public image, but that wasn’t the only scandal this relationship caused.

The timing of their relationship brought into question if Minogue had ended her relationship with Donovan for Hutchence.

Donovan told The Mirror in 2016: “It was bad enough that she’d run off with anybody but she happened to run into the arms of the greatest rock god of the period, the very guy who I secretly wanted to be. That was a pretty big punch to take.”

Though the relationship was brief and ended just a few years short of Hutchences’ death, Minogue shed some light on their relationship in the documentary, Mystify: Michael Hutchence in 2019.

“He had [an] insatiable curiosity, all the good things in life and some the bad,” she said.

“He opened up a whole new world for me. A lot of it was based around pleasure, let’s face it. It felt loving, yet sad, but was probably doomed.”

“Sex, love, food, drugs, music, travel, books, you name it, he wanted to experience it,” Minogue said. “He was a dark bad boy and I was the pure good girl.”

Kylie and Lenny Kravitz: 1991

Though just a rumoured fling, reports of Minogue and Lenny Kravitz’ relationship dominated headlines, with the pair remaining tight-lipped. They never publicly shared that they had dated, though it would have been an iconic relationship.

Kylie and Jean-Claude Van Damme: 1994

Initially this dalliance between Minogue and Jean-Claude Van Damme was just tabloid gossip, though it turned out there was some truth to the rumours.

The pair met on the set of the action movie Street Fighter, with Damme not admitting to their fling until almost two decades later, when speaking with The Guardian.

“Yes. OK. Yes, yes, yes. It happened. I was in Thailand, we had an affair,” he began before diving into the details.

“Sweet kiss, beautiful lovemaking. It would be abnormal not to have had an affair, she’s so beautiful and she was there in front of me every day with a beautiful smile, simpatico, so charming, she wasn’t acting like a big star. I knew Thailand very well, so I showed her my Thailand. She’s a great lady.”

The fling seemed to end amicably as the pair later teamed up to record a charity cover of Oasis’ Stop Crying Your Heart Out in 2020.

Kylie and Stephane Sednaoui: 1996- 1998

There isn’t much to know about this good-looking couple, they were together for around two years, though neither of them ever spoke about their time together.

Kylie and James Gooding: 2000 – 2003

Meeting backstage at the Brit Awards at the start of the millennium, this pair were reportedly inseparable until its very ugly ending played out in the tabloids.

The pair’s relationship ended in 2003, with Gooding making some fairly nasty accusations and admitting he cheated on her with Sophie Dahl. In a tell all interview, he went on to scathe Minogue, describing her as a “self-obsessed, virtually friendless control freak.”

Minogue hit right back in a 2003 interview with People, blaming the demise of their relationship on Gooding “taking drugs and boozing.”

“I was madly in love with James from the beginning but it all went so badly wrong. He couldn’t live without sniffing a line of cocaine or drinking heavily.”

The singer went on to add, “I should have ditched him before the entire thing got messy.”

Kylie and Olivier Martinez: 2003 – 2007

It only took a few months for Minogue to find love again with French model Oliver Martinez, seemingly perfect for one another.

Sadly in 2005, in the middle of their relationship, Minogue who was 36 at the time was diagnosed with breast cancer, she would go on to reveal this devastating news would also prevent her from having children.

The musician told Elle magazine that Martinez was incredibly supportive: “On particular dark days, I’d be lying on the bathroom floor wailing and he’d say, ‘OK, honey, you can cry for just five minutes, then I’m taking you on the bike for a ride around Paris’.”

By 2007, the French love story was cut short, with allegations of Martinez cheating being shut down by the couple’s representation at the time.

“Olivier Martinez and Kylie Minogue have officially confirmed that they are no longer a couple. They have made it clear that the decision to go their separate ways was mutual and amicable,” the joint statement said.

“The media’s false accusations of disloyalty have saddened them both. The two remain very close friends.”

Kylie and Andrés Velencoso: 2008 – 2013

Spanish model Andrés Velencoso dated the pint-sized popstar for five years before their conflicting work schedules got in the way.

Minogue has since only shared words of adoration for her ex, saying the split was amicable.

Kylie and Joshua Sasse: 2015 – 2017

The most serious of Minogue’s relationships was with UK actor, Joshua Sasse, whom she met of the set of Galavant.

Just one year into their relationship everything appeared to be perfect, with the pair announcing their engagement, saying they wouldn’t marry until same-sex marriage was legal in Australia.

Despite the later legalisation of same-sex marriage, the pair would never tie the knot, with The Sun reporting that the engagement was called off as Minogue suspected Sasse of infidelity.

“Josh and I have decided to go our separate ways,” Minogue posted with a picture of a sunrise.

“We wish only the best for each other as we venture towards new horizons.”

Kylie and Paul Solomons: 2018 – 2023

The British creative director of GQ, Paul Solomons dated Minogue throughout the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns, looking like the perfect couple. After four years together, returning to their normal lives, forcing them into a long-distance relationship saw the couple part ways.

A source told The Sun: “Kylie and Paul really tried to make things work but ultimately the time difference was a killer.”
