Mainoo, 18, bagged his first goal in professional football during the Red Devils’ 4-2 FA Cup win over Newport County on Sunday.

The midfielder missed the start of the season due to an ankle injury that he suffered in pre-season.

However, since returning to fitness, Mainoo has proved to be an important player for manager Erik ten Hag.

He has played in 11 of the club’s last 13 matches and got himself off the mark against Newport.

Despite it being his first strike in professional football, his team-mates are already sure about his prospects.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Mainoo’s fellow United players are convinced that he will have a massive future.

The report has suggested that they believe that he should be one of the first players in Ten Hag’s team.

It adds that the teenager’s technique and “cool temperament” have stood out in training.

This has seen other senior players talk Mainoo up and praise the way he has adapted to the environment of the first team.

Danny Murphy has also hailed the Stockport-born star as a “plus” for the club.

He said on BBC: “He’s been a real plus for Manchester United this season.

“The emergence of him.

“I know he was known around the club but he’s really taken to first-team football so easily.

“He looks very established. Good without the ball and comfortable on it.

“He’ll save them a lot of money in the market.”

Micah Richards agreed with his co-pundit as he claimed that Mainoo has “everything”.

He added: “What a player he is.

“Off the ball, on the ball. He has absolutely everything.”
