KIRSTIE Alley has died at age 71 after a short battle with her “recently discovered” cancer, her family announced.
The Cheers actress was “surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength,” her children wrote in a social media post.
“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
Kirstie won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for her role as Rebecca Howe in Cheers.
Tributes to the star are pouring in now from fans and former costars, as actor John Travolta wrote on Instagram that “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had.”
