Katy Perry and Miranda Kerr were all smiles when they reunited at the G’Day USA Arts Gala in Los Angeles on Jan. 28. The pair’s friendship caught fans by surprise, considering Kerr is Orlando Bloom’s ex-wife and Perry has been engaged to the actor since Valentine’s Day 2019. The couple also share 2-year-old daughter Daisy Dove.
In a speech presenting Kerr with the excellence in the arts award, Perry was quick to dispel any feud rumors, setting the record straight on her friendship with Kerr once and for all. “Some of you might be confused about why I’m introducing Miranda,” she said, according to People. “That doesn’t play into the antiquated narrative of ex-wives and new wives.”
Addressing the audience, Perry continued, “And yes, it’s true, most of the media would like to see us mud wrestle, including [Miranda’s husband,] Evan [Spiegel], but we are here to lead by love because Miranda is love. And as a lot of you know, love comes in many family iterations.” The “Dark Horse” singer also shared her gratitude for their “modern blended family.” “It’s like I gained another sister, one with whom I usually sidebar from the main family chat and agree with,” Perry said.
While some fans may still be surprised by their friendship, past interviews and social media interactions showcase the pair’s continued admiration for one another. In June 2019, the singer attended a Kora Organics event to show support for Kerr. Following the event, the model shared a photo with Perry and her sister, Angela Hudson, on Instagram. “Thanks for shining bright with me,” Kerr captioned the post.
During an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in 2020, Kerr vocalized her appreciation for their newfound family dynamic. “I adore Katy, and I just feel so happy that Orlando has found someone that makes his heart so happy, because at the end of the day, for Flynn to have a happy father and a happy mother is just the most important thing,” she said. “I’m just so grateful that Orlando and Katy found each other, and I’m so grateful that I found my incredible husband.”
Kerr and Bloom first began dating in 2007 and were married in 2010. In 2011, Kerr gave birth to their now-12-year-old son, Flynn. In October 2013, the couple confirmed they were separating and finalized their divorce the same year. A few years later, in 2017, Kerr married Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel.
Before he and Perry began dating on and off again in 2016, Bloom was romantically linked to Kate Bosworth, Penélope Cruz, Condola Rashad, Lindsay Lohan, Nina Dobrev, Luisa Moraes, and Selena Gomez. Meanwhile, Perry’s list of romantic partners includes Justin York, Matt Thiessen, Johnny Lewis, Travie McCoy, Russell Brand, Robert Ackroyd, John Mayer, and Diplo.
Bloom and Perry originally planned to get married in September 2019 but were forced to put off their nuptials due to complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking with Drew Barrymore on her daytime talk show in September 2022, Perry revealed that plans for an official ceremony are still in motion. “There’s still a plan, but the location is challenging,” she said. “Hopefully, soon.”
