Liverpool had agreed a £111million fee for the signing of Caicedo last week.

However, the player turned down the transfer in favour of joining Chelsea.

He only wanted the move to Chelsea having agreed personal terms earlier this summer.

Once the deal is completed, Chelsea will have spent £821million since Boehly’s takeover last year.

Klopp could not resist aiming a dig at the club’s spending following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw away to Chelsea on Sunday.

The Reds boss referenced comments made by Mauricio Pochettino as he spoke to reporters after the match.

Pochettino had said he wants to make more signings before the end of the transfer window.

“That’s what each Chelsea manager wants and usually they get it,” Klopp told reporters.

Chelsea have already spent over £175million on six new arrivals this summer.

However, those signings could not help them beat Liverpool on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

Debutant Axel Disasi’s goal earned a point for the hosts after Luis Diaz had given Liverpool the lead.

Liverpool are back in action on Saturday as they welcome Bournemouth to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Chelsea travel to West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
