Julian Sands’ cause of death has been deemed “undetermined” according to a public information officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department who confirmed this to People.
The officer clarified that the actor’s cause of death was ruled to be “undetermined due to the condition of the body and this is common when dealing with cases of this type.”
Sands was initially reported missing in January after going for a hike in California’s Mount Baldy.

When Sands was unable to be located, a six-month long search ensued for the missing actor until a group of recreational hikers stumbled upon human remains on June 24. Just days later, the remains were identified as those of Sands.
Now, it appears that due to the condition of the remains, the cause of death on Sands’ death certificate will be undetermined.
The discovery of the actor’s body came just days after the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department renewed their search for Sands on June 21. The mission to locate the actor included 80 search and rescue volunteers and deputies, two helicopters and drone crews.

“We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian,” a statement from the actor’s family read at the time.
“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.”
Previous efforts to locate the missing actor were at the mercy of wild and unpredictable weather occurrences at Mount Baldy which made the terrain inaccessible for search and rescue crews.

“Despite the recent warmer weather, portions of the mountain remain inaccessible due to extreme alpine conditions,” the department said of the June 21 search in an official statement.
“Multiple areas include steep terrain and ravines, which still have 10-plus feet [approx. three metres] of ice and snow.”
Julian Sands was best known for his work in shows like 24 and films like A Room with a View and Arachnophobia.
