Jockey flung through air like rag doll after leading horse goes AWOL in awful Taunton accident

[[{“value”:”

THIS is the awful moment a horse leading a race sent his jockey crashing through the running rail in a really nasty Taunton accident.

Poor Ella Herbison was flung through the air like a rag doll when Play By The Rules jinked right in a Class 4 handicap hurdle.

The 28-1 outsider had been travelling well and surged to the front three hurdles from home.

But he decided enough was enough when they rounded the bend approaching the penultimate flight.

Play By The Rules, who has one win in 19 races and is trained by Nigel Hawke, veered violently sideways.

And his jockey, a 5lb claimer, had no chance of staying on, smashing through the rail in a dramatic series of events.

Thankfully she and the horse were up on their feet and OK soon after the spill.

Although for a moment Herbison appeared hurt, with the commentator saying she was ‘on her knees’.

Describing the incident, Racing TV presenter Tom Bull said: “Play By The Rules most certainly didn’t do that.

“Coming to the rail he jinks to the other side and unships Ella Herbison.

“It looked pretty nasty in-running but good news both are safe and sound.”

The 2m3f race was eventially won cosily in the end by 15-2 No No Tonic for trainer Mark Gillard.

Iris Des Issards, a 14-1 chance, was a length-and-a-half back in second.
