It was the monologue that caused controversy around the globe, after poorly landed ‘jokes’ about Taylor Swift and the Barbie movie left social media outraged.
A week after his Golden Globes speech, comedian Jo Koy has responded to the criticism by seemingly calling out the “soft” stars of Hollywood.
Variety has reported that Koy appeared to address the backlash in a Friday comedy gig at the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis – his first since the awards show.

Koy reportedly told the crowd that he had dealt with a “lot a marshmallows, man.”
“They’re delicious, but goddamn, they’re soft,” he seemingly took hit at the unfavourable response to his awards show speech last week.
“I just come from a different time.”
“I see the changes that are happening. I get it, but goddamn, can we f—–g laugh at ourselves?” he added.

Koy also reportedly admitted to the St Louis crowd that he hadn’t “laughed in four days” following the monologue reception.
Kevin Hart was one of the stars to jump to Koy’s defence. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live! the actor praised Koy as “phenomenal”.
“You’re a talented and successful comic,” he added.
Koy got himself into a bit of hot water after he took a jab at the Barbie film premise in his opening monologue when comparing it to Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
“Oppenheimer is based on the 721-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Manhattan Project — and Barbie is about a plastic doll with big boobies,” Koy told the A-lister crowd.
The ‘joke’ received less than impressed looks from the movie’s director Greta Gerwig and actor Ryan Gosling, while Aussie star Margot Robbie awkwardly laughed it off.

Koy made a second joke of the night that did not go down well with the attendees.
The Golden Globes host took a controversial jab at pop star Taylor Swift about her recurring NFL appearances to cheer on her Chiefs boyfriend Travis Kelce.
“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift… I swear, there’s just more to go to,” he said.
The camera then panned to Swift who did not laugh as she took a sip of her drink.
While admitting the joke fell “a little flat,” Koy defended the joke on GMA3.

“I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way,” he said.
“It’s a tough room. It was a hard job, I’m not going to lie… I’d be lying if [I said] it doesn’t hurt.”
Koy later spoke to LA Times about the accusations of misogyny from his monologue claiming “if you’ve ever seen me, you’ll see just how much I praise and shine light on women, from my ex-wife to my mom.”
