Jenna Ortega has reportedly dropped out of Scream VII (Scream Seven), just one day after Spyglass fired her co-star Melissa Barrera from the project.
According to Deadline, Ortega’s exit “was discussed before the actors strike” and is not related in any way to Barrera’s exit, which reportedly occurred over her alleged social media posts about the Hamas-Israel conflict.
The publication reports that Ortega, 21, is due to begin filming soon for Netflix’s Wednesday and Beetlejuice 2 and has a busy work schedule.

This means the franchise has lost two lead actresses in a matter of days.
The pair portrayed sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter in the hit horror franchise, who are haunted by murderer Ghostface.
They last worked together on Scream VI (Scream Six), showing their characters move to New York in a bid for a fresh start.

Spyglass told People this week about Barrera’s firing: “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
Barrera reportedly said on social media: “I have been actively looking for videos and information about the Palestinian side for the last 2 weeks or so, following accounts etc. Why? Because Western media only shows the other side. Why they do that, I will let you deduce for yourself.”
Scream VI reportedly made $100 million in the US alone on its opening weekend.
Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette all recently reprised their roles in the hit franchise.
Ortega previously spoke to 9Honey Celebrity about working with the legacy cast and said: ”To finally see them and be in their presence and get to see how they are as people, they’re the sweetest, most kindest, talented people. And I wanted to do all I could to make them proud.”
“It was kind of like a nerve-wracking experience because you want to please these people that you look up to so much, but they’ve just been so cool about it.”
Barrera, best known for her role on In The Heights, was also in awe of the OG stars on set, given, like many, she grew up watching and loving the Scream franchise.

“We are the new generation in the franchise and they’re the legacy characters and they’re the characters that people have grown up with,” Barrera told 9Honey Celebrity.
“It was a little intimidating and scary, I’m not going to lie. But they’re so sweet and so generous and so kind.”
“They love franchise that it just makes me feel like, ‘Oh wow, I’m coming into be a part of something that’s so special,” Barrera added.
“Making it is such an unforgettable experience. And it’s surreal to see them and get to interact with their characters. That’s crazy.”
