JAY-Z, Rihanna, and More Stars Celebrate LeBron James’s Record-Breaking Game

When LeBron James smashed through Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA scoring record of 38,387 points on Feb. 7, making him the highest-scoring NBA player in history, some famous faces were there to cheer him on. LeBron broke the record in the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and stars in attendance included Rihanna; JAY-Z; Bad Bunny; Adele’s boyfriend, Rich Paul; and many more.

In a YouTube video shared just days before her Super Bowl halftime show performance, Rihanna praised the magnitude of LeBron’s achievement. “It is important to recognize greatness and great accomplishments,” she said. “Of course you’re no stranger to breaking records, but this record – this is one to be more than just acknowledged. This is one to be celebrated . . . Congratulations, King James.”

Bill Clinton, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar are also featured in the video montage. “From the time you went to the league, you had the doubters and the naysayers, and people that think you wouldn’t take it this far,” Lamar said. “Proved ’em wrong, dawg.” In another version of the video shared by the NBA’s Twitter account, Drake also offered his congratulations, calling the milestone a “legendary night.”

At the game, LeBron’s family also showed up to celebrate the occasion, and his sons, 15-year-old Bryce and 18-year-old Bronny, could be seen filming their dad as he made history. LeBron’s wife, Savannah James; his mom, Gloria James; and his 8-year-old daughter, Zhuri, were also there to celebrate. After the game, LeBron shared a tight embrace with JAY-Z, Usher, Magic Johnson, and others. Later in the night, Abdul-Jabbar himself passed a symbolic basketball to LeBron, honoring the new record holder.
